Sony obtains PS5 panel patent, paving the way for more colors

One year after launching its shiny new PlayStation 5 hardware, Sony Computer Entertainment finally patented the sleek and curvaceous panel of the game console, indicating that alternative colors/designs may be on the way to PS5.

The OPAttack website first noticed that the patent was granted by the US Trademark Office on November 16, and opened the door for Sony to produce various tones of slate for this robust boy. This will allow PS5 owners to better associate their console with their surroundings, if the gray/white does not seem to suit them.

It should be noted that although the patent has been granted, this does not mean that Sony plans to release a new panel soon. Publishers will be equally keen to lock in the possibility of third parties to create their own custom panels without first obtaining permission from Sony itself. For the wealthy of the company, this aspect is much more important.

Sony has already blamed the hammer of legality on some shops that design and ship custom PS5 panels, including the online company Customize-My-Plates, and the more notorious Canadian manufacturer Dbrand, who dared to sue Sony, and then sternly Forced to pull the license plate under the threat of legal proceedings. (You can check the failure in this article of VGC).

In the final analysis, big companies are big companies, but what I can’t help feeling crazy is that in a world like ours and in this era, the “worry” that companies may make plastic slats for installation on game consoles is such a potential threat to SIE. . There is no doubt that we will soon learn about Sony's plans for its PS5 panel. Of course, the first step is to make and sell more game consoles for fashion-savvy players to actually use them.
