Revolution Targets by Pendleton Portable 6-Inch Plate Rack - Handguns

Shooting plate racks is a lot of fun, and it’s also great training, but not everyone has access to a facility that offers a rack. Well, if you’ve got a place where you can set one up, Revolution Targets by Pendleton has an answer for you with its 6-inch portable plate rack.

I’ve been using this rack for more than a year, and it’s terrific. It is the handgun model ($940), which is constructed of 1/4-inch AR500 steel; there are also rimfire ($900), rifle ($1,020) and magnum rifle ($1,125) versions.

The rack comes in two parts: the rack and the stand. This makes it convenient for both transport and storage. The rack is four feet long, and the stand is 32x28 inches, including the legs. Simply set the stand, with the long side of the legs facing the firing line, against a safe backstop. Insert a couple 2x4s into the stand. I use two-footers, which places the top of the rack three feet high. Install the rack on top of the 2x4s.

The rack weighs just over 60 pounds, and it has handles on the back for moving it and placing it on the 2x4s. When it’s set up, the plates are swung slightly forward, the rack slightly angled down, and this positioning directs bullet splash to the ground. But this is still steel, so the usual cautions to wear wraparound shooting glasses and keep a 10-yard minimum distance apply.

I drag a lot of gear to the range on a typical trip: handguns, long guns, target stands, gear and ammo bags, and so forth. But all this plus the plate rack fits into the back of my Toyota 4Runner. I’m not some strapping young man by any stretch, but I’m able to get the rack out of the back, walk it to the stand and place it on the 2x4s by myself with no problem.

The great thing about this plate rack is there’s no resetting involved. When you hit a plate, it swings. There are grease fittings on the back for each plate, so it’s easy to keep them swinging freely.
