The "Operation Clean Plate" resulted in more than 50 cars being taken off roads in the Hudson Valley.

Police in the Hudson Valley are busy parking 50 cars on highways in the surrounding areas of Yonkers and Westchester County.

On Monday night, members of the Yonkers Police Department and the Westchester County Police Department carried out a license plate cleaning operation, targeting improperly registered vehicles with expired, illegal or forged paper license plates in Yonkers.

The police said that more than 50 vehicles were impounded and dozens of subpoenas were issued.

"In the foreseeable future, your local police will continue to conduct targeted enforcement to reduce these problems," Yonkers Police said.

Officials said many of the impounded vehicles owed tens of thousands of dollars in fines for parking and traffic cameras.

According to the Yonkers Police Department, these vehicles are also a source of quality of life complaints, including aggressive driving, noise pollution and illegal parking.

"Special thanks to the vast majority of the public who spend time doing things the right way, queuing in the DMV, filling out forms, paying registration fees and taxes, etc., as well as their support to the Yonkers police!" Yonkers Police Department added on Facebook.

Although the Hudson Valley has no place on the list, the area has recently received a lot of praise.
