A woman from South Carolina stepped on a rusty nail in a Wal-Mart store, causing her leg to be amputated, winning a $10 million lawsuit against Wal-Mart.

According to KATV, in June 2015, April Jones stepped on a rusty nail that pierced her foot while shopping at Walmart in Florence, South Carolina. The lawsuit stated that Jones "was suddenly experiencing severe pain in her feet when she passed through an area with several trays nearby. Ms. Jones examined her feet and found that a rusty nail had pierced her shoes and got stuck in her shoes. On the feet."

The station added that Jones went to the hospital and had to cut a hole in her foot to treat the wound. This treatment eventually led to multiple surgical amputations, which caused her to lose her right leg until above the knee.

Anastopoulo Law Firm, which represents Jones, said she has been in a wheelchair for six years. The $10 million verdict will enable her to purchase prostheses and make her home more accessible.

Jones filed a lawsuit in May 2017. After five days of trial, the jury deliberated for about an hour and a half.

"Among other things, the weakness of the Wal-Mart case is that they failed to produce a video that they claimed showed that their behavior complied with the company's policy of requiring employees to conduct regular security scans," Anastopoulo's press release said. "During the five-day trial, no such evidence was provided."

According to The Hill report, Wal-Mart’s lawyers have filed a motion for a new trial.

This is the second lawsuit that Wal-Mart has lost this week. On Tuesday, in Alabama, a jury found that a woman arrested on false allegations of shoplifting was $2.1 million in compensation and then charged a law firm more than $200 in settlement fees, which is more than the alleged theft. The cost of items is even higher.
